Findochty Town Hall was awarded funding to provide a ‘warm space’ and refuge for local community in the event of a major mains power failure.
Moray Local Action Group awarded £2,950 towards the purchase of a 14KVA (11KW) gas powered portable external generator so that in the event of a power cut electrical mains power would be restored to the hall.
The funding also covered the cost for the installation of an external plug to hook up to the generator, and an internal switch in the main power distribution box to switch from normal mains power to generator power. Installation of the project was completed in March 2023.
As a registered charity (SC048650), Findochty Town Hall support the community of Findochty on the behalf of Findochty Community Council. The hall provides a range of services to the community, including parties, wedding receptions, funeral gatherings, live music and performances, keep fit classes, table tennis and a weekly a pop-up café attended by up to 100 people.
Surveys conducted at the pop-up cafe found that 80% of attendees would use the facility in the event of a power outage. Moray Council has now appointed a Community Resilience Officer who is developing plans to compliment the use of the emergency facility.
