Forres Friends of Woods and Fields received funding to hire a community gardener to support to its volunteers to develop its growing garden.
The Community Gardener was employed to make permanent growing beds, paths and do the required maintenance on the garden in order to prepare for the next growing season. The gardener also helped to develop no-dig beds which were more accessible, aesthetically pleasing and manageable for the volunteers.
The funding has been vital for us. And it’s provided employment for someone.
Like us, most charities are not commercial enterprises. We’re not just growing for ourselves. We’re growing for others and taking produce to the local food bank. Employing someone means that more can happen.
