ReBOOT was awarded funding from Moray Local Action Group to support two linked projects: supporting solutions donation, and streamlined recycling.

Supportive Solutions Donation Project

ReBOOT offered 50 refurbished devices to disadvantaged people in Moray. Working with key partners who included Moray Council Employability team, the NHS and SSAFFA, ReBoot’s revamped computer systems and laptops helped to meet rising local need following the Covid-19 pandemic. This funding helped to support the costs of the devices and staff time to manage the processing and management of the project.

Streamlined Recycling

The second linked project enabled ReBOOT to streamline and increase capacity of its free recycling, collection and data sanitisation service for individuals and businesses. Moray Local Action Group funding enabled the purchase of a specialist Hard Disc Drive / Small Media shredder. With electrical waste now the fastest growing waste stream on the planet, ReBOOT are now able to offer “witnessed data destruction” to support its overarching services.

Impact

The project supported 50 people in the local community, while enhancing ReBOOT’s carbon use and operational activity in its workshops. In total 20 people participated in the project (6 staff and 14 volunteers), fulfilling a range of tasks, including: processing of hardware for donations, cleaning and building devices, managing referral partners, gleaning feedback, capturing data, and installing and processing hard drives for shredding.
