Moray Local Action Group funding supported resources and activities for the Youth Club run by Burghead Free Church.
Burghead Youth Club currently has 54 members, and the majority of these are young people from Burghead. The club is well attended, with over 80% of the 18 sessions run this academic year attracting 80% of registered members.
The funding from Moray Local Action Fund was used for games and arts and craft materials, broadening the scope of what the club was able to offer. The resources were also used by the After School Club, and for the chruch’s planned Community Pop In support group for those who feel socially isolated. In total the funding is expected to benefit over 100 Burghead children and young people aged 5-16 years and 20-30 adults at the weekly drop in café.
The Youth Club has become a focal point for community engagement within Burghead, with the club running two community events as part of its Caring for Burghead and its People project. These included a film night for 70 people and an afternoon tea for Burghead which was attended by over 90 people, many of them elderly. Four members of the Youth Club have also been invited to join Burghead and Cummingston Community Council.
Community Voices
I see community as a group of people who live in the same place and get along together. I joined Burghead Community Council because I wanted to be able to put my thoughts forward and represent something.
Poppy, Burghead Youth Club
The funding from Moray LAG will enable us to run the youth club and deliver some of the projects that the young people and the community want to see.
